County Bounty Adoption Special a Huge Success!

(Phoenix, November 19, 2012) –Maricopa County Animal Care & Control held an adoption promotion with the goal of finding homes 200 animals over three days, November 16th, 17th,  and 18th. Petsmart Charities helped sponsor the event and it was a howling success, the goal was almost doubled, and 395 pets found new forever homes!

MCACC is thankful for the overwhelming response, but there are still 334 pets available for adoption that would love to share the holidays with you and more are coming in every day. The holidays can be stressful for humans and pets alike. More pets are often surrendered to shelters before and after major holidays such as Thanksgiving. The seasonal focus on shopping, cooking, and family gatherings often leave shelters with lower adoptions as well.  Therefore, the “County Bounty” adoption special fees of $17 for a dog or puppy and zero cost for a cat or kitten will continue through Wednesday November 21st!!

Every dog and cat will be spayed or neutered and given age appropriate vaccinations. Dogs over the age of three months will also be licensed.  Keep your pets safe! Microchips are available for only $25.

If you can’t adopt, but want to help, please spay or neuter your pets and help us lower the number of homeless animals in Maricopa County. Another way to help is by becoming a foster family. Fostering is a temporary placement of our homeless animals which saves their life. We are always in need of people who want to open their homes and their hearts to our animals. Foster families care for puppies and kittens not yet old enough to be placed up for adoption and dogs or cats recovering from medical or behavior issues.

Max Wilson, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and the proud owner of an adopted dog from MCACC, urges the community to think about adoption. “Dogs and cats have so much love to offer. They make great companions,” he said.  “You will also be saving a life when you adopt from a shelter.”

So hurry in today and add a new member to your household. For more information on MCACC, such as locations and hours, visit www.pets.maricopa.gov or call (602) 506-7387.
