[ARCHIVED] MCDOT Maintenance Crews Out in Force Following Monsoons

MCDOT-flood

When a monsoon hits the valley, the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) deploys its maintenance crews to set up barricades and close flooded roadways. The heavy rainfall last week created issues on roads throughout Maricopa County, including communities like Desert Hills, New River, Rio Verde, Mesa, Rainbow Valley, and Tonopah, as well as other communities.

Once the storms passed, the MCDOT team was out in force, using heavy earthmoving equipment to clear mud and debris from the roads, making them passable once again. In fact, when an August 14th storm flooded the Town of Gila Bend, MCDOT answered the call for help from County Emergency Management, deploying its crews and equipment to assist in clearing and reopening roads. Crews worked to clear several town roadways, including Pima Road, the main route through town.

MCDOT crews will spend the next several weeks clearing debris and making repairs to roads damaged during the storms. If you know of a road that is in need of repair, you can make a request online or call the MCDOT Roadway Hazard Hotline at (602) 506-6063.
