To my constituents:
I know we are united when we say goodbye to 2020 and hello to the promise of 2021. Thank you for your kind words and prayers for my recent recovery as I battled COVID these past few weeks. I am grateful to be feeling better but remain concerned about the transmission in our community. Please take care of your family, friends and coworkers by taking precautions while the vaccine is distributed nationally in the coming weeks.
I had the opportunity to work on Capitol Hill for six wonderful years early in my career. To work in the monuments of our democracy was a privilege I will never forget and will always respect the majesty of our constitution. To witness an assault on this very institution was shocking and shameful. I strongly condemn this despicable attack. Now we must focus on restoring democracy and securing the country. The world is watching.
Today is Opening Day of the 55th Legislature. I look forward to working with the Governor, state and federal lawmakers and my fellow county officials on issues that are important to our shared constituencies, including any amendments to state law that further clarify elections processes. Confidence in elections has and always will be paramount to me as I have demonstrated through my recent comments and vote. I will continue to push for an examination of voting machines to further assure the general public that their votes are counted, serving to restore and maintain faith in our elections.
I am truly honored to represent the people in my district and thank you for electing me to another term.
Sincerely,
Steve Chucri, District 2
