Maricopa County Department of Public Health received its first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday morning.  Four boxes holding approximately 18,000 doses arrived at a Public Health facility.  Approved by the FDA with an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) on Friday, Dec. 18, the Moderna vaccine will supplement supplies of the existing Pfizer vaccine.

Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) has spent months planning with healthcare partners for Phase 1A vaccine distribution through PODs or points of dispensing. MCDPH and community healthcare partners are currently vaccinating frontline healthcare workers and EMS who are in Phase 1A of the vaccine distribution plan.  With vaccinations at five regional PODs already underway, Maricopa County welcomes this first shipment of the new Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

With vaccinations at five regional PODs already underway, Maricopa County welcomes this first shipment of the new Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. MCDPH is earmarking doses of Moderna’s vaccine for long-term care facilities that are not part of the CDC’s Pharmacy Partnership, which provides these facilities with a way to vaccinate their staff and residents. Any Maricopa County long-term care facility that has not signed up for that partnership and wants vaccine for their staff and residents can go to Maricopa.gov/COVID19vaccine for details on the supplemental MCDPH program.

Maricopa County has video, pictures, and more information about COVID-19 vaccines on our Medium page.  Photos from today's delivery can be seen when you scroll down past the section on the Pfizer vaccine delivery.
