Energy Insecurity Project Details
1. Learn
- In the workgroup meetings, stakeholders learn from each other about energy insecurity from multiple perspectives.
2. Engage
- Energy Insecurity workgroup meets monthly to discuss the connection between energy insecurity and public health, climate change, and vulnerable populations through the lens of health equity.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration across different community sectors.
3. Collect Data
- The Community Survey was administered to communities in South Phoenix by Community Health Workers. The survey was grouped into questions on the topics of energy sources and costs, energy burden, housing quality, energy literacy, coping behaviors with energy problems, personal health, COVID-19, and household composition and demographics. 4. Develop EII
- The Energy Insecurity Index (EII) will be informed and developed using information from the Greenlink Equity Mapping Tool, MCDPH vulnerability tool, and community member survey results.
5. Action
- The energy insecurity index will help inform where to take action to improve energy equity and housing conditions to improve health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities in Maricopa County.

- “Energy Insecurity and Public Health: Going Further through Cross-Sector Collaboration” – Final Presentation for Interdisciplinary Research Leaders, Maricopa County Stakeholders, and the Arizona Corporation Commission (This is a summary of this project including the data informing our strategy)
