Legal Community
Our office partners with the Arizona Public Defender Association each year to host the APDA Annual Conference. The Conference is attended by over 1200 defense attorneys and staff from across the state. There, we offer intensive courses during the preconference on a variety of topics relevant to the defense community, including: Crimmigration, Motivational Interviewing, Social Media Investigation, and Constitutional Capital Jury Selection. At the main conference, we run an average of ten course offerings at a time for three full days, allowing for extensive opportunities for CLE credits on a variety of topics including: Indian law and its intersection with criminal law, search and seizure, incorporating mindfulness into legal practice, and improvisation in the courtroom. Each year we bring a new keynote speaker related to the criminal law field. Speakers have included Dean Strang, known for his defense work in the film Making a Murderer, and Piper Kerman, Orange is the New Black memoirist.
