What Are the Admission Requirements?


  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Completion of the required academic Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) course work with a verification statement or a verification of intent to complete form*
  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or greater on a 4.0 scale
*Additional course work is required to update DPD coursework if completed five or more years before the year the Dietetic Internship begins. Example: You are applying for the Dietetic Internship that begins August 2019 and your degree was granted prior to August 2014, you will need to take additional classes prior to application.

Recency of Education Policy


The following Recency of Education Policy is a policy statement for applicants with a signed verification statement dated more than 5 years before the year the Dietetic Internship begins. The courses taken to satisfy the requirements of this policy must be completed at a U.S. college or university that houses an accredited DPD program.
  • If the signed verification statement is dated within the last 5 years, then no extra coursework is required.
  • If the signed verification statement is dated within 5-10 years from the starting date of the internship program, then the applicant must have completed with a grade of C or better 6 credit hours of DPD coursework. The following courses are highly recommended:
    • A medical nutrition therapy or diet therapy course
    • Another advanced level DPD nutrition course
  • If the signed verification statement is dated 10 years or more from the starting date of the internship program, then the applicant must have completed with a grade of C or better 12 credit hours of DPD coursework. The following courses are highly recommended:
    • A medical nutrition therapy or diet therapy course
    • Another advanced level DPD nutrition course
    • A biochemistry course
    • An anatomy and physiology course
An official transcript that verifies the courses taken must accompany the application packet.

Our dietetic internship is a full time, 38-week program approved for an annual class of 5 interns. Interns participating in the program will be exposed to a wide variety of nutrition services from metropolitan and rural areas of Maricopa County. Opportunities are provided to interact with individuals and groups from multi-ethnic backgrounds representing all ages and levels of education. Clinical, food and nutrition management, community and specialty experiences offered will challenge interns to integrate knowledge gained from dedicated study with opportunities for practice and application.
