Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) offers exciting internship and volunteer opportunities throughout the year through various programs. These positions will complement education with experience to best prepare candidates for the professional public health world.
Internship Opportunities
Public Health Intern Leadership Academy
The Public Health Internship Program goes beyond the office work experience and truly prepares next generation of the public health workers through meaningful project opportunities and leadership development.
All public health interns will participate in three essential components of the program:
- Project-based work within an office of the Dept of Public Health
- Professional development workshops aimed at essential skills identified by hiring managers
- A symposium that’s open to the entire Public Health Department, where interns can be recognized for their work
Dietetic Internship
Maricopa County's Dietetic Internship offers a public health focused supervised practice program with two tracks: (i) a full time track and (ii) a AZ WIC track for qualified WIC employees working in an Arizona local agency.
Interns in both tracks will work with dietitians from a wide variety of disciplines and be exposed to an extensive range of nutrition and public health services.
MCDPH Fellowship Program
We are pleased to announce the launch of the MCDPH Fellowship Program. This two-year program will connect recent graduates of advanced degrees with practical, hands-on learning experience working with multiple layers of government to plan and execute initiatives combating substance misuse and abuse. Fellows will be placed in either one of Maricopa County's largest cities or at Maricopa County Correctional Health Services where they will provide support to local efforts and serve as regional liaisons to MCDPH to promote internal work. Through this program, Fellows can anticipate gaining exposure to city and/or county operations while supporting impactful, evidence-based plans and activities.

Volunteer Opportunities
Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a community-based, civilian, volunteer program that helps build the public health infrastructure of communities nationwide. Each MRC unit is organized and trained to address a wide range of challenges from public health education to disaster response.
