Fridays Fitness Hike- McDowell - Wagner Trailhead
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Fridays Fitness Hike – Various locations in Park- ALL Fridays Come to one or all of the Fitness Hiking Series, every Friday. The length of the hikes varies each week. Come prepared to hike 5-miles or more. This week's hike will begin at Wagner Trailhead. Please wear sturdy shoes & bring plenty of water. Hike led by Kevin B.

"A Look at Desert Tortoises - a Night Mover" Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Join the Ranger for a short talk on the incredible Desert Tortoise. We will take a closer look at a live captive tortoise and talk about some of the different desert adaptations this most interesting animal exhibits. This program will be inside the visitor center. Come join the Ranger and our resident Desert Tortoise!

FREE Introduction to Kayaking Classroom Presentation at Cabela's
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Would you like to try kayaking but don't know where to start? Everything you need to know about flat-water kayaking will be presented at the "Get Wet Beginner Kayaking" program. Lake Pleasant Regional Park, the Desert Outdoor Center, and Cabela’s is presenting a free one-hour informational classroom session that will be held at the Glendale Cabela’s on Friday evening (you will NOT get wet). No registration is necessary to attend the classroom session.

Dates of FREE 1-hour classroom introductory sessions are: August 8, August 22, September 5

Then if you wish to try your skills in a kayak, you may sign up for one of six on-the-water sessions that will be held at the Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant. The $40 registration fee for the on-the-water portion will be collected before the evening classroom session at Cabela’s. Registration will begin at 6:00p.m. on first come, first serve basis. Cash or check only please.

Dates for 3-hour on-the-water sessions are: August 9, August 23, Sept 6 (choose from a 7a.m. or 9 a.m. arrival time)

(Sign up and pay at any of the Friday classes, on-water sessions fill up fast, so first come, first served)

Ages 12 & up, call 602-372-7470 for more information. If under 18 years then must be accompanied by an adult.

The Desert Outdoor Center is a gated facility, so you must be registered to attend the water sessions. Gates will be open 30 minutes before each session begins

The boat dock is about a 1/4 mi down from the facility, so please be prepared for a short hike. There is no boat ramp access to launch a kayak at this facility, so please do not bring your personal kayaks.

Desert Nights - Hike - Cave Creek Regional Park

The sun goes down and the sky grows dark. It’s time for the night shift to go to work! That’s when we get a chance to see who’s out there trying to make a living! Join the Ranger for adventure and fun in the Desert Night! Meet at the Nature Center. Be sure to bring water, a flashlight, and a camera! All ages welcome. No pets, please.

Family Moonlight Hike - White Tank Mtn.
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
Experience White Tank in a different light - moonlight! Load up the kids and join park staff and volunteers for a 1 1/2 mile walk on the Black Rock Long Loop Trail, where we will experience the desert as the sun goes down, as well as under the light of the full moon. Bring your scorpion light, a flashlight, some water, and wear closed-toe shoes. Please leave your dog at home. Please meet at Area 4. This trail is "off-road stroller friendly".

Movie Night in the Park: "Toughest Desert Animals" - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
This Nat Geo film showcases some of our toughest desert animals. Watch a roadrunner take on a rattlesnake and a group of hawks hunting like a wolf pack! Included is a rarely-seen rattlesnake fight which was filmed at Usery Park. Then watch us feed our snakes after the movie! Feel free to bring snacks and drinks with you (no glass bottles), otherwise, concessions are available. Note: Due to some violent animal scenes, this movie may not be suitable for younger children. Location: Nature Center.
