NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY LAKE PLEASANT CLEAN UP
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Lake Pleasant Regional Park has been busy all summer long and now we need your help cleaning the park up. Hikers, paddlers, scuba divers, boaters, bicyclist, and all types of community groups can help restore the park at this year's National Public Lands Day Lake Pleasant Clean Up. Volunteers who register outside the main contact gate at Lake Pleasant Regional Park between 6:30AM and 8AM will have their park entry fee waived, for helping us clean up the park. The clean up will be between 7AM and 11AM, and you may stay in the park afterward and enjoy the lake and park. So ask your friends and community groups to come on out and help! Bring gloves and trash grabbers if you have them.

Bird Walk with Joe! - Cave Creek Regional Park

Explore the Upper Sonoran Desert in search of our finely feathered friends! Joe will lead you on a hike along the trail. Meet at the Nature Center. Bring your binoculars, camera, field guide, and plenty of water. Dress for adventure, including sturdy shoes. *** Special Guest Guide, Joe Ford. Joe is a native of Missouri. He holds several degrees in education and a Masters Degree in Natural Science from the University of Oklahoma. He has been an educator on the junior high, high school and college levels. After 42 years in the teaching field he retired to Sun City, Arizona. He is a board member in the Sonoran Audubon Society and a member of the Sun City Rockhounds, among many of his other interests.

Like to Hike - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Impress your friends! Update your status with pictures from your morning hike. Join Ranger Amy for this morning hike and see how many things there are to “like” about Estrella Park! This moderately-paced social hike will be approximately 2-miles. This will not be an interpretative hike, but we will take breaks for photos so you can “share” with your friends! Please make sure to bring a camera, plenty of water and wear appropriate footwear. Meet at the Nature Center. There will be a release of a Red-tailed Hawk back into the wild at the beginning of the hike, but we will hit the trail immediately afterward.

Red Tailed Hawk Release! 7:00am - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Before the morning hike, wildlife experts will be releasing a juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk back into the wild after its rescue from the park earlier this spring. This is a great opportunity to see one of these magnificent animals up close and celebrate it's return to the life it was meant to lead! The release will be done from the Nature Center. Make sure to bring your camera and plan to stay for the hike!

"Get Wet" Quick Start Your Canoe On-Water Beginner Flat Water Canoeing Class - Lake Pleasant

See September 20th "Quick Start Your Canoe" class at Cabela's. Attend this session and you can also sign up for the on-water four hour portion of this class. There are limited spots available for the on-water class, which is from 8AM - 12PM.

QuickStart Your Canoe -Beginner Flatwater Canoeing On-water Skills Course
Desert Outdoor Center
If you've ever wanted to go canoeing but didn't have the necessary skills, then QuickStart Your Canoe is the perfect training for you. This American Canoe Association course is designed to introduce the beginning paddler to basic canoe skills & knowledge so that you can enjoy the sport of tandem canoeing on flat water.

Everyone is invited to come to Cabela’s® (in Glendale) on Friday evening for an informational classroom session that is free to everyone. You do NOT neeed to register to attend the classroom session. We will discuss types of canoes, paddles, canoeing gear and safety tips. You will not get wet during the classroom session.

If you wish to participate in the 4-hour on-water paddle session at Lake Pleasant, arrive at 6:00pm on Friday to register for Saturday’s water session. You must attend the classroom session to participate in the on-water session. The registration fee for the on-the-water portion is $40 and class size is limited, so arrive early. Cash or check only please.

PLEASE NOTE: The Desert Outdoor Center is a gated facility, so you must be registered to attend. Gates will be open 30 minutes before each session begins. ***There is no boat ramp access to launch a boat at this facility, so please do not bring your personal watercraft. The boat dock is about a 1/4 mi down from the facility, so please be prepared for a desert hike.

Bring a bag breakfast and eat with the tortoises! Meet our adorable BABY tortoises, and watch them and our adult captive tortoises eat their breakfast, as we eat ours. Learn all about these slow-moving native reptiles, such as where you can find them in the park, how you can apply to adopt one, and why you should never pick up a wild tortoise. Our Avian Friends! - Cave Creek Regional Park

This program introduces the hobby of bird watching. It details the needs of bird watchers, from equipment to how to become a good “birder”. Discussion of bird traits to look for as well as how to listen to bird sounds are included. Major bird orders and specifics to consider when engaging in identification are detailed. Trailhead Congested this weekend
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
An event will be staged in the Trailhead Staging Area the weekend of September 28th and 29th. As a result there will be quite a bit of congestion in the trailhead. The park is recommending using the North Trail and Lousley Hill Trail for hiking. And the Competitive Track or Wagner Trailhead for mountain biking. Equestrians by staging Four Peaks you will enjoy a quietier staging area.

Ever wanted to find out who is making all those holes in the desert? Unravel the mystery with Ranger Amy on this level, 1 & 1/2 mile wash sunset hike. You never know what you might find. Bring your binoculars, water, and wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots. This is a flat hike in a sandy wash. All ages are welcome. Meet at the Lousley Hill Trailhead.

Did you know that scorpions glow in the dark under a blacklight? Join Ranger B as he leads us on this fun and safe night walk to find these elusive desert dwellers (using our eyes only). You will learn cool facts about these amazing creatures and sharpen your spotting skills! All ages will enjoy this casual one-hour/one-mile walk. Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring water and a flashlight (blacklights are recommended and are for sale for $10, batteries and tax included). No pets, please. Location: Trail Staging Area. Join our “All About Scorpions” program inside our Nature Center at 6pm and our snake feeding at 7pm at no extra cost!

Stargazing for Everyone
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
Enjoy an night under the stars. You will learn about constellations, learn star names and listen to stories of the night sky. View the moon, planets, star clusters and galaxies through telescopes provided by presenting astronomers. Bring a chair to sit on for the presentation that lasts about 45 minutes. Event is held in Area 4. Try to arrive by 7:15 pm.
