Desert Birdwalk Nursery Tank Pond- ADA Access- McDowell Park

Skip the sleeping in this Saturday, and be rewarded with some of our colorful desert species who are out taking advantage of the cooler morning temps, too. Grab your binocs and come on out. No previous birding experience is required, only an interest in birds! This easy walk is along our less-than-½ mile accessible trail. Meet at Nursery Tank Trailhead.

Interested in archery? Why not give it a try? Participants will experience a fun and safe basic introduction to recreational and international-style target archery. Equipment is provided. This program is open to anyone ages 8 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult! Bird Walk - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Join knowledgeable folks from the Sonoran Audobon Society for an easy hike along the Gila River discovering the bird life of Estrella Park. Between the river habitat, mesquite bosque and nearby farm fields, and turf area, over 150 different species have been observed. We are likely to see up to 40 species, including: Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers, Osprey’s, Hawks, Ibis, and Stilts. When you think about it, everyone is a birdwatcher—you can do it wherever or whoever you are– it’s just more fun to know what they are. Meet at the Nature Center. Rain cancels event.

Exploring the Dragonfly Trail - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
September 14 Saturday 8:00 am Exploring the Dragonfly Trail (moderate) Come along with park ranger Kevin Smith on this exploration of the newest trail in the Spur Cross trail system, the Dragonfly Trail. On this moderate 3.5 mile hike we will visit a prehistoric rock art site and also stroll along a beautiful section of riparian habitat on Cave Creek.

For those who have successfully completed “Archery 101”, we will open the range for some “practice” time. We will close the range promptly at 12pm. You are welcome to come and go at your leisure during the allotted time. Please be sure to bring your “Archery Card” for verification. This archery program is open to anyone ages 8 and older. All About Wolves - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Are there wolves in Arizona? If so, where? How dangerous are they? How do they survive and thrive in the wild? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about wolves, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares some amazing facts about these carnivorous canines. Location: Nature Center.

Scorpion Scavenger Hunt - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
What has 8 legs, 2 pincers, and glows under a black light? SCORPIONS! Set out on a desert exploration at night as we search for these fascinating creatures and find out just how cool these amazing arachnids really are. We will be hiking 1 mile, round trip, on the Goldmine Trail; bring plenty of water, proper hiking attire, and a flashlight (black lights also encouraged, but are optional). Black lights will be available to rent at the visitor center through the Friends of San Tan.
