Fridays Fitness Hike – Wagner Trailhead
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Fridays Fitness Hike – Various locations in Park- ALL Fridays Come to one or all of the Fitness Hiking Series, every Friday. We build up to a longer hike at the end of the month. Please wear sturdy shoes & bring plenty of water. This week's hike starts at the Wagner Trailhead.

Un-Nature Trail - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Test your observation skills on this 0.5-mile walk. Ranger Amy will guide you on this barrier-free trail. You may be surprised how much “stuff” you can overlook. This program will teach the basics of critter camouflage in our natural environment. Come out for the program and stay for a picnic! Meet at the Gila Trailhead.

Clay Mine Hike - Cave Creek Regional Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Join us for adventure as we explore the Clay Mine! This will be an easy 2 mile hike (round trip). Once inside, we'll discuss the history of this mine and learn how its contents were used to "cure what ailed ya"! We'll supply the hard hats. You bring water, a flashlight, & sturdy shoes. Park in the Nature Center parking lot and follow the signs to the mine. This is an "open house" format, so you may come and go at your convenience during the designated time slot. Last tour at 7:30, the mine will be closed promptly 8pm.

All About Tarantulas - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
How dangerous are tarantulas? When and where can you see them? How do they survive and thrive in our desert? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about tarantulas, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares some amazing facts about these super spiders. Location: Nature Center. Watch us feed our snakes after the program at 7pm. Then join our “Animal Flashlight Walk” at 7:30pm at no extra cost!

Beginner Flat Water Kayaking Class at Glendale Cabela’s
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Have you ever wanted to give flat water lake kayaking a try? Well here is your chance. Lake Pleasant Regional Park, the Desert Outdoor Center, and Cabelas is once again presenting the "Get Wet Beginner Kayaking" program. A free informational classroom session will be held at the Glendale Cabelas on Friday evening (you will not get wet). You do not need to register to attend the classroom session. Then if you would like to experience flat-water kayaking on Lake Plesant, you may sign up for an on-the-water session that will be held at the Desert Outdoor Center. The $40 registration fee for the on-the-water portion will be collected during the evening classroom session at Cabelas. Registration for on-the-water sessions begins at 6:00pm on a first come, first serve basis. Cash or check only please. Ages 12 & up, call 602-372-7470 for more information. Dates of free 1-hour classroom introductory sessions are: August 2, August 16, and September 13. Dates for the 3-hour on-the-water sessions are: August 10, August 24, and September 21 (pick a 7AM or 9AM arrival time; sign up and pay at any of the Friday classes, on-water sessions fill up fast, so first come, first served) PLEASE NOTE: The Desert Outdoor Center is a gated facility, so you must be registered to attend. Gates will be open 30 minutes before each session begins. ***There is no boat ramp access to launch a kayak at this facility, so please do not bring your personal kayaks. The boat dock is about a 1/4 mi down from the facility, so please be prepared for a short hike.

FREE Introduction to Kayaking Classroom Presentation at Cabela's
Desert Outdoor Center
Would you like to try kayaking but don't know where to start? Everything you need to know about flat-water kayaking will be presented at the "Get Wet Beginner Kayaking" program. Lake Pleasant Regional Park, the Desert Outdoor Center, and Cabela’s is presenting a free one-hour informational classroom session that will be held at the Glendale Cabela’s on Friday evening (you will NOT get wet). No registration is necessary to attend the classroom session.

Dates of FREE 1-hour classroom introductory sessions are: August 2, August 16, September 13

Then if you wish to try your skills in a kayak, you may sign up for one of six on-the-water sessions that will be held at the Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant. The $40 registration fee for the on-the-water portion will be collected before the evening classroom session at Cabela’s. Registration will begin at 6:00p.m. on first come, first serve basis. Cash or check only please.

Dates for 3-hour on-the-water sessions are: August 10, August 24, Sept 21 (choose from a 7a.m. or 9 a.m. arrival time)

Animal Flashlight Walk - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
We are the nocturnal animals of the desert and we like to hide. Help Ranger B find us if you can! If you would like to learn about us and enjoy a night walk in the desert, then join Ranger B as he takes you on this exciting 1-mile/1-hour walk along the Merkle Trail. The Merkle Trail offers universal access and the hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Please bring water, a flashlight, and closed-toe shoes. No pets, please. Location: Area 6. Join our “All About Tarantulas” program inside our Nature Center at 6pm, and our snake feeding at 7pm at no extra cost!
