San Tan Shredders Mountain Bike Group - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Due to it becoming hotter this time of year, we will starting the mountain bike rides a bit earlier than normal. We hope you can join us again for another exciting mountain bike ride among the beautiful San Tan Mountains. Most group rides are comprised of riders from all various skill levels, ages and fitness levels, but we all share the common interest of riding mountain bikes. "No Rider Left Behind" is our policy, because we ride together in groups based upon your riding levels. This is your opportunity to be around others who are passionate about mountain biking as a sport to have fun. We offer help when needed so you can gain new skills and confidence while on the trails. Come out and enjoy the great views of the San Tan Mountain Regional Park and the quiet get away from the everyday noise. This is a great way to get some exercise, have fun and meet some awesome people. A helmet is mandatory for safety reasons and please bring plenty of water, bike tools, extra inner tube, tire pump and the appropriate riding gear. We will be meeting at the main entrance to the trails just west of the Ranger station. Hope to see you on the trail soon!

"Get Wet Beginner Kayaking" Program On-water Skills Course
Desert Outdoor Center
Have you ever wanted to give flat water lake kayaking a try? Well here is your chance. Lake Pleasant Regional Park, the Desert Outdoor Center, and Cabelas is once again presenting the "Get Wet Beginner Kayaking" program. The program starts with a free one hour informational classroom session held at the Glendale Cabelas on Friday evening (you will not get wet). You do not need to register to attend the classroom session.

Dates of free 1-hour classroom introductory sessions are: August 8, August 22, September 5

Then if you would like to experience flat-water kayaking on Lake Plesant, you may sign up for an on-the-water session that will be held at the Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant. The $40 registration fee for the on-the-water portion will be collected during the evening classroom session at Cabelas. Registration for on-the-water sessions begins at 6:00pm on a first come, first serve basis. Cash or check only please. Ages 12 & up, but if under 18 years then must be accompanied by an adult. Call 602-372-7470 for more information.

Dates for 3-hour on-the-water sessions are: August 9, August 23, September 6 (choose from a 7AM or 9AM arrival time; sign up and pay at any of the Friday classes; on-water sessions fill up fast, so first come, first served)

PLEASE NOTE: The Desert Outdoor Center is a gated facility, so you must be registered to attend. Gates will be open 30 minutes before each session begins.

***There is no boat ramp access to launch a kayak at this facility, so please do not bring your personal kayaks. The boat dock is about a 1/4 mi down from the facility, so please be prepared for a short hike.

Sensational Slithering Summer Saturday Series at Estrella Mountain Regional Park

Psst…have you heard the news? The Estrella Mountain Regional Park is getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this Summer! That’s right, at the end of each of the “Sensational Slithering Summer Saturday” programs offered between July 12 and August 9, we’ll be raffling off a family four-pack of Wet ‘n’ Wild tickets. The Sensational Slithering Summer Saturday Series is a self-guided tour where visitors are invited to see the snakes, scorpions, desert tortoise, and nature center displays. The program is offered from 10 to 11 a.m. Individuals who arrive at the nature center by 10:45 a.m. to attend the program are eligible to participate in the 11 a.m. drawing. Each family will receive one (1) ticket per family. The family with the ticket selected, will receive a family four-pack of single day admission tickets to Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix. Park admission is $6 per vehicle.

Monsters in the desert? Yes it’s true; Arizona is home to a bumpy, scaly, venomous monster with sharp teeth called the Gila Monster. Join Ranger Tish inside the cool nature center for an exciting talk on these reptiles with a monstrous reputation. Find out where they live, what they like to eat, and how their venom is being used in the medical world as we learn “All about Gila Monsters.”

Prickly Pear Cactus: The Big Taste - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Known to few, the fruit from the prickly pear cactus are actually quite edible. The neon fruit provide delicious juice that tastes like a cross between all-natural bubblegum (if indeed there is such a thing) and watermelon. The juice is often used to make jam or candy, but works wonders in vinaigrettes for salads, cakes and drinks. Join Jean Groen, author and guest presenter from Boyce Thompson Arboretum, as she shares with you how to prepare unique cactus cuisine. No registration required. Meet inside Nature Center. NOTE: This program is part of the “County Parks are getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this Summer” promotion. Adult Moonlight Hike - White Tank Mtn.
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
See the desert in a different light - moonlight! Join us for a moonlit walk on the Waterfall Trail (1.8 miles roundtrip). Bring a flashlight, your scorpion light, and wear closed-toe shoes. This hike is limited to those 16 years and older. Please leave your dog at home. Hike will begin at Area 6.

Summer Night Ride Series- McDowell Pemberton Trail
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
The summer night mountain bike series will be held on Friday or Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. All riders must have a helmet, a lighting system designed for mountain biking and battery power for 3 hours of riding. Riders must sign-in and sign-out, two hours are allowed to ride the Pemberton Trail. It is highly recommended that you ride this trail in day light before coming out for a night ride. The sign in/out sheets are available at 6:30 for riders who might need extra time in order to be back by 10pm. NO RIDERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO START AFTER 8:00 p.m.
