Know Your Knots Park Ranger Program - Lake Pleasant

Join the Park Ranger at the Lake Pleasant Visitor Center, to learn a few helpful knots - It's Crazy Fun! These knots can be used for a variety of task. This program is great fun for kids and adults. You can challenge yourself at any level!

All About Vultures - Evening "Brown-Bag It" with Ranger B - Usery Park

What makes vultures so strange and special? Which vulture species live in Arizona? How do they survive and thrive in the wild? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about vultures, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares some amazing facts about these bald birds. Location: Nature Center. Watch us feed our snakes after the program at 7pm. Then join our “Animal Hide and Seek Flashlight Walk” at 7:30pm at no extra cost!

Animal "Hide and Seek" Flashlight Walk - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
We are the nocturnal animals of the desert and we like to hide. Help Ranger B find us if you can! If you would like to learn about us and enjoy a night walk in the desert, then join Ranger B as he takes you on this exciting 1-mile/1-hour walk along the Merkle Trail. The Merkle Trail offers universal access and the hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Please bring water, a flashlight, and closed-toe shoes. No pets, please. Location: Area 6. Join our “All About Vultures” program inside our Nature Center at 6pm, and our snake feeding at 7pm at no extra cost!

Bug Theater: The Twilight Collection - Cave Creek Regional Park

Join Ranger Sarah and a bug expert from ASU, as we light up the night and see what creepy crawlies want to come visit us. This is a hit with the kids and you will be surprised how much you will enjoy it too! First we will start with a presentation on different types of insects and spiders that live in the desert and then we will create our own movie screen of bugs! We will see moths, beetles and even a praying mantis or two. Bring flashlights and go easy on the bug spray!! Bug guides will be on hand. You are more than welcome to enjoy a picnic dinner before hand and then meet with us afterwards. Meet at the Nature Center.

Scorpion Hunt at White Tank Park

Break out the scorpion lights and come search for the elusive creatures on the Black Rock Short Loop. We won’t be catching any to bring home, we will just count and observe. May not be suitable for children under 3 years of age. No dogs please. BUGS

Scorpion Scavenger Hunt! - McDowell Park
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Scorpions are a lot more fun to find when you spot them glowing under a blacklight, scavenger-hunt style (outside, rather than in your house)! Learn all about these venomous creatures and what makes them so well-adapted to life in the Sonoran Desert. Did you know that we commonly see three different species? And that all scorpions--even fossils of scorpions--glow under a black light? Bring a flashlight or a blacklight, and wear sturdy shoes. This short walk will be less than a mile in length. Meet at the Trailhead Staging Area.
