Life along the Creek - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
June 15 Saturday 7:00 am Life along the Creek (moderate) Join interpretive ranger Kevin Smith as we look at the plants and animals that live in the riparian area along Cave Creek. The hike will take us through the Jewel of the Creek and along the lower section of the Dragonfly Trail for a distance of approximately 1.5 miles. Some rock-hopping may be required. NOTE: This program is part of the “County Parks are getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this Summer” promotion. At the end of the program, we will give away a free family four-pack (4 free tickets to the Wet ‘n’ Wild Water Park)

Desert Edibles Walk - Usery Park

How have people survived off the land for thousands of years? Which desert plants are edible and when are they edible? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about desert edibles, then this walk is for you! Join Ranger B on this quarter-mile stroll along the Desert Hawk Trail as he shares some useful facts about our edible desert plants. Please bring water and closed-toe shoes. Location: Nature Center.

There’s a Rattlesnake on my doorstep! Life in the Phoenix area means living with rattlesnakes. So, what DO you do if you find one in your yard? What should you do if you or someone you know is bitten? Find out the answers to these questions and more during this indoor Interpretive Program for all ages. We will have live snakes on hand for viewing. Large groups, please rsvp. Program takes place in our Visitor Center. “The County Parks are getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this Summer!” That means program participants will be eligible to win a 4-pack of tickets to Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix! 1. Tickets will be issued one per family. 2. Families can only win one set of 2013 Wet ‘n’ Wild tickets. 3. Visitors must attend the program in full and must be present to win. At the end of the program, the Interpretive Ranger will pull one winning ticket. 4. One 4-pack will be issued per program.

Archeology at White Tank Park (time change)
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
- Join Rangers on a trip to some of the lesser seen petroglyph sites in White Tank Park. Learn some of the possible connections between the rock art and the lives of the Hohokam who lived in the Valley of the Sun. There is some climbing and the hike may be too advanced for young children. No dogs please.

Discover the Desert Hike with Naturalist Frank at the Visitor Center - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
You will enjoy slow hiking with Naturalist Frank, as he enlightens your insight into the flora of the desert world. This hike starts at the visitor center and is about 1.5 miles and will last about 1.5 hours. The trail is fairly easy to moderate with a slight elevation change. Don't forget your water and a snack!

Scavenger Hunt - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
This is a fun activity that you can do on your own, and at your own pace. Here's how it works: Ranger Amy has hidden a treasure token somewhere in the park. Come out to enjoy your day in the park. Keep your eyes open for a hidden treasure token while you picnic, hike, mountain bike or horseback ride. If you find it, simply follow the instructions to claim a small prize! This will be an ongoing program thoughout the month, so keep looking! Have fun and watch for clues to be posted in the Nature Center and on our website.

Cool Kids Sprinkler Fun - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Bring your kids to the park to enjoy some time outside. We will have a small area of sprinklers set up for the kids to run through in our grass picnic area. Adults can sit in the shade of a nearby ramada, or bring your own lawn chair for a little relaxation in the park while the kids cool off in the water. Sprinklers will be set up for a limited time (1.5 hours) and parents must stay and supervise their little ones. Location: Ramada #2 in our picnic area.

Desert 101 - Summer Series (Wet n Wild event)

All About Monsoons - San Tan - Wet N Wild Program
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
This program is part of the “County Parks are getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this summer” series and we will be giving away a family-four pack of Wet ‘n’ Wild Water Park Tickets at the end of the program. As the summer heat threatens to evaporate every drop of water from an already arid environment, a sudden shift in wind direction brings in moisture from the south. Soon Arizona’s sky fills with intense lightning storms and water pours down on a thirsty desert. Frogs and Toads appear out of nowhere, plants begin to bloom, and the Sonoran Desert is once again filled with life. Join us in the nature center as we find out why all the creatures make such a big haboob out of a Sonoran Desert Monsoon.

The Great Scorpion Hunt & Learn Program - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Don't be afraid of scorpions, just learn about them and know how to avoid them in the wrong places (shoes & sleeping bag). Yes, we will be going on a scorpion hunt with black lights. It is your chance to get close up and understand these interesting creatures, in a fun "no-touch" way. Bring your water, black light flashlight, regular flashlight, and your sense of adventure. There are black light flashlights available for $10 or you may borrow one from the ranger. Hike is short and about one hour.
