Fitness Hike - Cave Creek Regional Park

We will continue our Fitness series as long as everyone wants to keep it going. We’ll start a bit earlier to beat the heat. Who needs a gym membership when you can reap the same benefits in the beautiful outdoors? See how fun exercise can be out in the scenic setting of Cave Creek Regional Park. All levels of fitness are welcome. We will set a moderate, steady pace, based on the fitness level of participants. Beginners are welcome. We will hike about a 3.5-miles in a different part of the park each week. Meet at the Nature Center. Bring plenty of water!

Rocks and Streams Walk - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
May 2 Thursday 8:00 am Rocks and Streams Walk (moderate) Learn about the geology and streams of the Spur Cross region on a 2-hour walk with nationally-known earth science author, Thomas McGuire. Visit an abandoned gold mine, Nutcracker Rock and a Hohokam rock art site along Cottonwood Wash. Bring water and your natural curiosity. Meet in the Spur Cross parking area.

Un-Nature Trail - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Test your observation skills on this 0.5-mile walk. Ranger Amy will guide you on this barrier-free trail. You may be surprised how much “stuff” you can overlook. This program will teach the basics of critter camouflage in our natural environment. Come out for the program and stay for a picnic! Meet at the Gila Trailhead.

Brown Bag - Just Cactus at White Tank Park
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
Bring your own lunch and sit in the Nature Center to participate in a focused topic discussion about the cacti that grow in our desert. How can they survive in such a hostile environment? Learn some facts about these incredible plants when you join the Ranger for a stroll along the quarter-mile Mule Deer Trail. Please bring water. Location: Nature Center.

Little Critters Storytime w/ Ranger Amy -McDowell Park Nature Center
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Little Critters Storytime with Ranger Amy - (Geared toward preschool and older children) Join us every Thursday for a themed program set around a children's book read aloud by Ranger Amy. Activities vary and may include live animals, songs, crafts, and/or puppet plays. This program takes place in our air-conditioned Visitor Center.
