Bird Walk - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Join knowledgeable folks from the Sonoran Audobon Society for an easy hike along the Gila River discovering the bird life of Estrella Park. Between the river habitat, mesquite bosque and nearby farm fields, and turf area, over 150 different species have been observed. We are likely to see up to 40 species, including: Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers, Osprey’s, Hawks, Ibis, and Stilts. When you think about it, everyone is a birdwatcher—you can do it wherever or whoever you are– it’s just more fun to know what they are. Meet at the Nature Center. Rain cancels event.

Interested in archery? Now is your chance to "check it out"! Participants who sign up for this program will experience a fun and safe basic introduction to recreational and international-style target archery. Equipment is provided. This archery program is open to anyone ages 8 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult! Ages 8 and up are welcome to participate in the fun and safe sport of International Target Style Archery. Interested in archery? Curious about how to shoot a bow? Come to Usery Park and find out! You will discover how fun archery really is! Participants will experience a fun and safe introduction to recreational and international-style target archery. Equipment will be provided. This class is open to anyone ages 8 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Meet at the Archery Range. Note: this class is also offered at 10:30am.

If you are an aspiring hiker, but don’t have much experience, no need to worry! Join Ranger Amy for an introduction to desert hiking in a non-intimidating setting. This brief presentation and short trail hike (approximately 1-mile) will be a great way to learn. We will talk about basic hiking gear, trail etiquette, Estrella Park’s trail system, and important tips for the beginner hiker. Meet at the Rainbow Trailhead.

Canaries in the Coalmine - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Special guest speaker Joe Ford will tell us about bird populations decreasing throughout North America and locally in the southwest. This program discusses the reasons associated with that decline. Habitat loss and alteration, the effects of chemicals in the environment including the continuing increase of carbon emissions and the resulting alteration of atmospheric gas composition are discussed. Arizona birds of concern are a large part of the program. Ways we can improve the success of bird populations are emphasized. This is a power point presentation. Meet at the Nature Center.

May 11 Saturday 7:30 pm Stargazing at Spur Cross (easy) Come watch the sky with us! This is a fun & exciting family activity. Enjoy an evening at Spur Cross watching a slide show presentation by professional stargazer Tony LaConte. Look through telescopes, learn names of stars, see the constellations, and listen to stories of the night sky. Come alone, or with your entire family or group. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Summer Night Ride Series - Kick off event!
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
The summer night mountain bike series will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. All riders must have a helmet, a lighting system designed for mountain biking and battery power for 3 hours of riding. Riders must sign-in and sign-out, two hours are allowed to ride the Pemberton Trail. It is highly recommended that you ride this trail in day light before coming out for a night ride. The sign sheets are available at 6:30 for riders who might need extra time. NO RIDERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO START AFTER 8:00 p.m.
