LAKE PLEASANT PADDLE FEST EVENT - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
The Lake Pleasant Paddle Fest will be Saturday, April 12th from 8AM to 5PM in Fireman's Cove, Lake Pleasant. Come on out and try paddling a number of paddlecraft and join in on the fun activities. Admission is just the regular park entry fees. Bring the family and your swim suit, lots of fun, games, and contest too.

Here is the schedule:

Location: Follow signs from the main entrance off Castle Hot Springs Road to the north entrance of Lake Pleasant to Fireman’s Cove

5AM EARLY MORNING PADDLE FISHING DERBY 5AM Sign-in Time, 5:30AM Start Fishing, Noon End Time (Ed Elefante)

This will be a short hike to observe and photograph seasonal wildflowers! We’ve had a bit of rain over the winter so we are optimistic we’ll have a good crop of wildflowers to observe and enjoy. Meet at the Nature Center. Bring a hat, sturdy shoes, and plenty of water! And don't forget your camera!

Rock Art of Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
April 27 Saturday 8:00 am Rock Art of Spur Cross (moderate) The petroglyphs found in Spur Cross were created hundreds of years ago by the Hohokam people. Come and walk in their footsteps as we visit a few of the more impressive sites in the park during this two-hour hike. No dogs on this hike please.

Tracks and Scat– Outside of Park- Golden Eagle Trailhead
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Ever wondered what animal left their mark on the trail before you? Even when we don’t see actual animals, we can determine which animals are in the Park through signs such as tracks and scat. On this 3 mile round trip walk, we’ll use the clues they left behind to find out which animals visited the night before. Hikes beginning from Golden Eagle Trailhead require the $2 fee for the Regional Park.

Find the Naturalist on the Pipeline Canyon Trail - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Come on out and hike the Pipeline Canyon Trail at Lake Pleasant and see if you can find Frank the Naturalist. Frank loves to answer questions about the desert and surrounding areas. Frank will be on the trail from 9AM to 11AM, and you can usually find him at the bridge. Frank can share fishing stories and tips about fishing in the lake.

Clay Mine Hike - Cave Creek Regional Park

Join us for adventure as we explore the Clay Mine! This will be an easy 2 mile hike (round trip). Once inside, we'll discuss the history of this mine and learn how its contents were used to "cure what ailed ya"! We'll supply the hard hats. You bring water, a flashlight, & sturdy shoes. Meet at the Nature Center parking lot and follow the signs to the mine. This is an "open house" format, so you may come and go at your convenience during the designated time slot. The mine will be closed promptly at 2pm.

If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about saguaros, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares his love for the “jolly green giant of the desert.” Location: Nature Center.

Join us for a special program! “All About Arthropods!” What are arthropods you ask? An “arthropod” is an invertebrate animal having an exoskeleton, a segmented body, and jointed appendages. Arthropods include insects, arachnids, and crustaceans. We will have students from Arizona State University bringing “LIVE” colonies of bees, termites, and ants. See the inner workings of these social insects! Meet and greet spiders, scorpions, and more! Get a close up look at these fascinating creatures! Fun for kids and adults! You’ll want to learn “All About Arthropods!”

Scorpion Scavenger Hunt - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
As you head into the beautiful Sonoran Desert at night armed only with your black light, flashlight and water bottle, you see something glowing in the distance. Scorpions! And rather than running away from them, you follow the ranger as he takes you closer. Join us on a special evening adventure through the park searching for scorpions. How many will you find during this 1-mile expedition on the Goldmine Trail? Black lights will be available to rent for $3.00 at the visitor center through the Friends of San Tan.
