***CANCELLED***Due to circumstances beyond our control, this program has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience.*** Join us for adventure as we explore the Clay Mine! This will be an easy 2 mile hike (round trip). Once inside, we'll discuss the history of this mine and learn how its contents were used to "cure what ailed ya"! We'll supply the hard hats. You bring water, a flashlight, & sturdy shoes. Meet at the Nature Center parking lot and follow the signs to the mine. This is an "open house" format, so you may come and go at your convenience during the designated time slot. The mine will be closed promptly at 12pm.

Brown Bag Historic Pemberton Ranch Hike - McDowell Park
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Brown Bag Historic Pemberton Ranch Hike- Hike begins at the Trailhead Staging area. Join Ranger Amy on an interpretive hike to historic Pemberton Ranch. Children should have some previous hiking experience, as hiking time is 2 1/2 hours, and 3 miles. Bring a bag lunch for a picnic out at the ranch site, and of course, plenty of water and sturdy shoes for the hike. No pets please.

Eco Tour - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Who ate all of the plants in my front yard? And what is that tall spiky thing shooting out of the ground? If it’s your first time to the desert, or you are curious about the creatures and plants that call this area home then join Ranger Adam as we explore the Sonoran Desert’s unique sights, sounds and smell on the Littleleaf Trail. The hike will be approximately 1.3-miles, round trip, at a relatively mild or slow pace. Please wear proper hiking attire and bring plenty of water.

Petroglyph Hike - Estrella Mountain Regional Park
Estrella Mountain Park
On this 1.5-mile hike, you will see evidence of a past civilization, the Hohokam. The Park Ranger will take you to areas not usually accessible to the public. The trail is easy, but there will be some climbing involved, so be prepared. Meet at the Horseshoe Trailhead.

Usery Mountain Regional Park
How do you tell one brown bird from the next, and what are the first three items to look for as the little rascal flits off? Are you already a novice but interested in keeping a yearly, state or country bird list? Bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker, will talk about bird habitat, behavior, range, etc. as we go in search of the native birds in this area. Please bring binoculars, water, and closed-toe shoes. Wildflower Photography - Usery Park

Spring is in the air and this is the time our desert brightens up with the wildflowers! Join Nature Photographer, Dori Lewis, for a presentation on photographic techniques and composition to improve wildflower photographs. Following the indoor presentation, the group will head out on our quarter-mile Desert Hawk Trail to apply some of these techniques. Bring your camera. Location: Nature Center.

Cave Creek Regional Park
Don’t miss an extra-special “Polliwogin’ Storytime” with award winning author, Conrad Storad, as he reads his children’s book, “Rattlesnake Rules”. This will be a fun, interactive reading, with a craft project afterwards. A short hike will be included, as well. Copies of his books will be available for purchase and he will happily autograph your personal copy. Be sure to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy, afterwards, as we have a picnic area and playground for your enjoyment. This special event will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 10 AM in the Nature Center at Cave Creek Regional Park. Please be sure to bring a bottle of water and wear a hat and sturdy shoes.

Find the Naturalist on the Pipeline Canyon Trail - Lake Pleasant

Talk Hiking with Frank - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Stop by the Lake Pleasant Visitor Center and find out where there are good hiking trails north of Phoenix. Naturalist Frank has been hiking the northern areas around Lake Pleasant for many years. Frank can also answer many of your other questions about the lake and park, including plants and wildlife. Frank will be at the Visitor Center from Noon to 1:30PM to address hiking and a lot more, so stop by anytime between these times.

Campground Nature Walk - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Join park host, Sandy Hornbaker, for a late afternoon sojourn through our campground and nature trail on a quest to spot desert wildlife and plants. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, but bring binoculars, your afternoon tea, and a little patience. Be prepared to walk one to two miles. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Enjoy the moonlight and the desert night in a hike along the Waddell Trail. This is a two mile walk. Meet at Area 7 at 7:00 pm. Children under 15 can come to the family hike on the 22nd. No dogs please.
