Dixie Mine Hidden Petroglyph Hike - meet OUTSIDE of Park - McDowell
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
This is a rare opportunity to hike to an area with ancient Hohokam petroglyphs. The Dixie Mine area has some fascinating history, and stunning hidden petroglyphs. This area is one of the best kept secrets in the Park. This 5 1/2 mile roundtrip hike has a few steep inclines, but the trail is well-maintained, and the reward is worth it. Bring more water than you think you'll need, and meet at the Golden Eagle trailhead in Fountain Hills. We will park just before the Guard Gate at the end of Golden Eagle Blvd, and walk into the park. Call the Park for more detailed directions to the Trailhead.

This hike will be approximately 4-miles. There will be plenty of opportunity to stop for pictures so you can “share” with your friends! Please make sure to bring a camera, plenty of water and wear appropriate footwear. Meet at the Coldwater Trailhead.

Bring your coffee to Usery Park and explore the endless possibilities of backyard birding with bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker. Learn how to attract different birds to your own backyard and what you must provide to your feathered friends. Ask Sandy what your responsibilities are as a backyard birdwatcher and what you can expect. Please bring binoculars and water. Location: Campsite 21 in the Buckhorn Campground.

Friday Fitness Hike - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Health and fitness go together hand and hand, but instead of being in a gym all day, head outside and take pleasure in the scenic beauty of the San Tans. Breathe in the fresh air, take in the sights and enjoy a few fitness facts along the way. On this 3.5 -mile fitness hike we will be discussing the cactus of the desert; what they are and how to avoid their spines. This program is part of a hiking series that will take place on select Friday’s each month with a new fitness facts topic for each hike.

Home School Program with the Science Center: "Beautiful Butterflies" - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Make your own butterfly habitat and learn about the life cycle of butterflies! Take home larvae to experience the wonder of butterfly metamorphosis. Recommended for ages 6-10, accompanied by an adult. NOTE: Pre-registration is required through the Arizona Science Center. Registration closes on March 1. To register, please call the Arizona Science Center at 602-716-2000 ext. 229, or email campbellm@azscience.org. Arizona Science Center members: $15 for the first parent and child and $5 for each additional child. Non-members: $20 for the first parent and child and $5 for each additional child. Extra charge of $7 per family for butterfly larvae. There is also a $6 per vehicle entry fee to enter Usery Mountain Regional Park. Location: Usery Park Nature Center.

Rock Art of Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
March 22 Friday 9:00 am Rock Art of Spur Cross (moderate) The petroglyphs found in Spur Cross were created hundreds of years ago by the Hohokam people. Come and walk in their footsteps as we visit a few of the more impressive sites in the park during this two-hour hike. No dogs on this hike please.

Fireside with the Ranger - Cave Creek Regional Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Join Ranger Mark at the Nature Center for a "Fireside" chat. He will provide the "fire" and answer your questions about the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert. We'll listen for owls, bats and coyotes and maybe even "call" back to them! Bring your marshmallows and hotdogs, (don't forget a stick to roast them on). Be sure to ask him about his adventure to North Carolina! Hmmm.
