Competitive Track will be CLOSED
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
A special event will be held on the Competitive Track during most of the day on Saturday and Sunday, February 9th and 10th. The special event will result in the track being closed to the public Friday thru Sunday.

Fridays Fitness Hike – Wagner Trail
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Fridays Fitness Hike – Various locations in Park- ALL Fridays Come to one or all of the Fitness Hiking Series, every Friday. We build up to a longer hike at the end of the month. Please wear sturdy shoes & bring plenty of water. This week's hike starts at the Wagner Trailhead in the Campground loop.

Sonoran Desert 101 - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
February 8 Friday 9:00 am Sonoran Desert 101 (easy) Join interpretive ranger Kevin Smith on a hike through the beautiful upland vegetation in Spur Cross. Learn about the ecology of the Sonoran desert and spend an enjoyable 2 hours of hiking slowly and enjoying nature. We encourage you to bring binoculars if you have them.

"Just for Kids" - Toddler Cruise - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
This 1-mile hike is designed for parents and grandparents with small children, ages 3 - 6 years old. Along with Miss Lynn, the kids will howl like coyotes, do the “bobcat crawl” and learn how to hydrate by counting gulps of water on their fingers. We will explore the desert along the scenic Merkle Trail. The hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Location: Area 6.

Learn how to attract different birds to your own backyard and what you must provide to your feathered friends. Ask Sandy what your responsibilities are as a backyard birdwatcher and what you can expect. Please bring binoculars and water. Location: Campsite 21 in the Buckhorn Campground.

Fireside with the Ranger - Cave Creek Regional Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Join Ranger Mark at the Nature Center for a "Fireside" chat. He will provide the "fire" and answer your questions about the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert. We'll listen for owls, bats and coyotes and maybe even "call" back to them! Bring your marshmallows and hotdogs, (don't forget a stick to roast them on). Be sure to ask him about his adventure to Costa Rica! Cool!

Digital Photography - Intermediate Level - Usery Park

Are you comfortable moving your camera off of the automatic settings? If you are and you are ready to look at some of the more advanced features of your DSLR camera, then this class is for you! Nature Photographer, Steven Lewis, will be discussing the reasons for using RAW versus JPeG, what white balance is and how it is important or not that important in shooting, different metering systems, and different autofocus. He will also have a brief discussion on wildlife photography including some of the ethical challenges for a wildlife photographer. Depending on time, bring along a flash drive with two of your best nature pictures and the class will critique them. Location: Nature Center
