Progressive Fitness Hike #1 - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Want to increase your fitness level and also enjoy the outdoors? Hit the trails with us for a fun way to get back in shape! During this hike series, each hike will increase in length and difficulty in order to help you prepare for the grand finale hike – the 7.5-mile loop trail around Pass Mountain! This is a great way to get in shape and to hike many different trails in Usery Park at the same time. This hike series will take place every Saturday morning through March 8. This first hike of the series will be approximately 2.5 miles on fairly level terrain. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Location: Staging Area. Note: Participation in the 4th or 5th hike in this series is required to do the final hike. Please be aware that this series involves elevation changes, uneven terrain, and a moderate pace. Participants are expected to stay with the group.

"Wag ‘n’ Walk" Dog Adoption Hike - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Don’t have a dog? No problem! Maricopa County’s Animal Care & Control and Parks and Recreation Departments have united to bring you this program. You can “test drive” potential canine hiking partners to see how they behave on leash and get along with other dogs, while learning about trail etiquette and safety. Owned, friendly, leashed dogs that are at least six months old and current on their vaccinations are welcome to join this one-mile trek on our scenic, groomed, Merkle Trail. Please bring water, closed-toe shoes, and an open heart for a possible new best friend, or two. This program will be held on the first Saturday of each month, from November through April. Location: Area 6.

5-mile Hike - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Are you doing the 100 miles in 100 days challenge? Need more miles to reach your goal? Or just get out and hike with some new friends! Your trusted hiking guide, Sandy, will lead you on this 5-mile trek. Join her for this scenic hike into the Estrella Mountains. Please have appropriate hiking attire, water and snacks! Meet at the Nature Center, then group will re-locate to the trailhead.

Archery 101 (Two class times available) - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Interested in archery? Curious about how to shoot a bow? Come to Usery Park and find out! You will discover how fun archery really is! Participants will experience a fun and safe introduction to recreational and international-style target archery. Equipment will be provided. This class is open to anyone ages 8 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Meet at the Archery Range. Note: This same class is also offered at 10:30 AM. No registration – just show up and have some fun!

Hohokam Houses - the Ruins of Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
February 1 Saturday 9:00 am Ruins of Spur Cross (moderate) Join us for this 2.5 mile hike that will introduce you to the rich archaeological history of the area. See evidence of prehistoric Hohokam dwellings and learn about their culture as we trek on up to one of their mesa-top compounds.

Volunteer Trail Maintenance Project - Estrella Competitive Track
Estrella Mountain Park
Calling all volunteers! Join some dedicated folks from the local mountain biking community as they join together on a trail maintenance project. This is a great way to get involved and meet other people with the same interests. Make sure to wear good shoes, bring a pair of work gloves and plenty of water. Meet at the Competitive Track near PIR (Phoenix International Raceway).

What makes roadrunners such unique birds? How do they survive and thrive in the desert? Do they really eat snakes? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about roadrunners, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares some amazing facts about these rapid runners. Location: Nature Center.
