Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
December 21 Saturday 7:00 am Winter Solstice Sunrise Walk(easy) Join us for a hike in Spur Cross on this shortest day of the year. We will start bright and early to greet the sun as it rises over the conservation area.

How do you tell one brown bird from the next, and what are the first three items to look for as the little rascal flits off? Are you already a novice but interested in keeping a yearly, state or national bird list? Bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker, will talk about bird habitat, behavior, range, etc. as we go in search of the native birds in this area. Please bring binoculars, water, and closed-toe shoes. Archery 202 - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
For those who completed our “Archery 101” class, this class will take you to the next level! Participants will learn about field target archery, discover how to improve their accuracy, and enjoy some friendly competition. Equipment will be provided. Participants must be graduates of our “Archery 101” class. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Meet at the Archery Range. 10 AM - Noon. No registration – just show up and have some fun!

Interested in learning how to hike in the desert? This easy hike on a level one-mile scenic trail will introduce you to the fun world of desert hiking! Park hosts, Mark and Lynn, will cover what to carry, what to wear, and how to hike safely in the desert. Location: Area 6.

Clay Mine Hike - Cave Creek Regional Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Join us for adventure as we explore the Clay Mine! This is an easy 2 mile hike (round trip). Once inside, we’ll discuss the history of this mine and learn how its contents were used to “cure what ailed ya”! We’ll supply the hard hats. You bring water, a flashlight, & sturdy shoes. Cameras are encouraged. No pets, please. Park in the Nature Center parking lot and follow the signs to the mine. This is an “open house” format, so you may come and go at your convenience during the designated time slot. Last tour is at 1:30pm and the mine will be closed promptly at 2pm. Painting Desert Animals on Rocks and Hot Cocoa, too -McDowell Park Nature Center
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Unleash your creativity and enjoy an afternoon of painting on rocks in our comfy Visitor Center. You may think that is just for kids...but wait until you see the art you can create with just a few tips and tricks. Ranger Amy will show you some surprisingly easy techniques that even children can use to create keepsakes out of river rocks, using the popular book series, "Painting Animals on Rocks" by Lin Wellford. http://www.linwellford.com/ Hot chocolate will be provided, free of charge. This program is suitable for ages 4 through adult. Painting smocks will be provided, or you can wear a shirt that can get permanent paint on it.

Introduction to Desert Plants - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park

Pleasant Paddlers Program - Holiday Light Parade Paddle at Scorpion Bay Marina - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Dress up your kayak or canoe and come paddle in this holiday light parade around Scorpion Bay Marina. We will also see lots of boats decorated in the marina docks as well. Come enjoy this short 1.5 hour journey. Look for the “Holiday Light Parade Paddle” signs that lead to the first yellow gate. Don’t be late, the gate is only manned between 5PM and 6PM (We set off at 6:30PM). Life vest are mandatory. Hot Coco and holiday cookies await you!

See the Black Rock Short Loop in a different light! Come and stroll this 1/2 mile loop, which will be lit with hundreds of luminaries. Then join us by the campfire for cocoa and cookies. No dogs please.
