Come to one or all of the Fitness Hiking Series, every Friday. It's a great way to meet people
and get fit! We build up to a more strenuous hike at the end of the month. Please wear sturdy
shoes & bring water.
Friday, 12/30- Meet at the Eagle’s Nest Trailhead, which is outside of the Park- at the end of Golden Eagle Blvd, for a hike on the beautiful Dixie Mine Trail. 6 miles. Note: this is a long hike, so bring a snack and more water than you think you'll need. |

First we will start off with a presentation on different types of bugs that live in the desert and then we will get up close and personal with some special friends brought to us by bug experts from ASU. Next, we will try our luck finding creepy crawlers around the trails. This is a hit with the kids and you will be surprised how much you will enjoy it too! A general introduction of rocks types and importance of texture and composition in determining their origins will be presented. Specimens will be available to observe and handle and categorize in the closing review. ***Special Guest Speaker, Joe Ford. Joe is a native of Missouri. He holds several degrees in education and a Masters Degree in Natural Science from the University of Oklahoma. He has been an educator on the junior high, high school and college levels. After 42 years in the teaching field he retired to Sun City, Arizona. He is a board member in the Sonoran Audubon Society and a member of the Sun City Rockhounds, among many of his other interests. |
