Competitive Track will be CLOSED - Saturday
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
A 12 hour mountain bike race will be held on the Competitive Track on Saturday, November 2nd. As a result the parking area and the track will be closed to non-participating park visitors.

Beginner Fitness Hike - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Did you know that Estrella Park has some great trails for easy fitness hikes? Join Ranger Amy on a 2-mile easy fitness hike along the gently rolling Horseshoe Trail. This trail is an ideal trail if you are a beginner hiker. We will hike this trail at a comfortable pace to allow us to get some exercise, but also take the time to enjoy the desert around us. Make sure to have water and appropriate footwear. Meet at the Horseshoe Trailhead.

Nature's Grocery Store- MMPC– Outside of Park- Eagle Ridge Trailhead - McDowell Park
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Hike in the beautiful Fountain Hills Preserve and find out which plants you could make a meal out of! See (and sample) some of what people used to eat before grocery stores came to Phoenix, and find out which ones are still consumed. Try a mesquite flour pancake, or a cracker with prickly pear jelly, along this moderate, 2 mile walk. Meet at the Eagle Ridge Trailhead in Fountain Hills.

Progressive Fitness Hike #1 - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Want to increase your fitness level and also enjoy the outdoors? Hit the trails with us for a fun way to get back in shape! During this hike series, each hike will increase in length and difficulty in order to help you prepare for the grand finale hike – the 7.5-mile loop trail around Pass Mountain! This is a great way to get in shape and to hike many different trails in Usery Park at the same time. This hike series will take place every Saturday at 8am through December 7. This first hike of the series will be approximately 2.5 miles on fairly level terrain. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Location: Staging Area. Note: Participation in the 4th or 5th hike in this series is required to do the final hike. Please be aware that this series involves elevation changes, uneven terrain, and a moderate pace. Participants are expected to stay with the group.

Exploring the Dragonfly Trail - Spur Cross

November 2 Saturday 9:00 am Exploring the Dragonfly Trail (moderate) Come along with park ranger Kevin Smith on this exploration of the newest trail in the Spur Cross trail system, the Dragonfly Trail. On this moderate 3.5 mile hike we will visit a prehistoric rock art site and also stroll along a beautiful section of riparian habitat on Cave Creek.

Wag ‘n’ Walk Adoption Hike - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Don’t have a dog? No problem! Maricopa County’s Animal Care & Control and Parks and Recreation Departments have united to bring you this program. You can “test drive” potential canine hiking partners to see how they behave on leash and get along with other dogs, while learning about trail etiquette and safety. Owned, friendly, leashed dogs that are at least six months old and current on their vaccinations are welcome to join this one-mile trek on our scenic, groomed, Merkle Trail. Please bring water, closed-toe shoes, and an open heart for a possible new best friend, or two. This program will be held on the first Saturday of each month, from November through April. Location: Area 6.

This is a series of programs that will feature plants and animals that call the Sonoran Desert, “home”. We will learn how these plants and animals have adapted to such a harsh environment and “their place in the sun”. We may venture outside, so be prepared! Meet in the Nature Center. "Just for Kids" - Kid vs. Wild - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Kids, what would you do if you got lost in the desert? This fun program will teach you what to do! You will learn how to find your way, signal for help, build an emergency shelter, and avoid desert dangers. This program involves a 1-mile hike and is designed for kids ages 7-12. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Location: Group Picnic C
