National “Take a Hike” Day - Usery Park

If you’ve been waiting to tell someone to “take a hike”, now’s your chance! November 17 is National “Take A Hike” Day! Whether it’s a solo jaunt or sociable hike with family, friends, and pets, this annual “holiday” provides the perfect excuse to head for the great outdoors and get some fresh air. Not only will you enjoy the sights and sounds of our amazing desert, but hiking is great for your body and mind as well! Ranger B will be at the Wind Cave Trailhead from 9-11 AM to encourage you on, distribute free park literature, and answer any questions you may have about hiking and our desert. Now take a hike!

National Take a Hike Day! - Cave Creek Regional Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Join Ranger Mark as we celebrate “National Take a Hike Day!” by taking a relatively short hike through the foothills of the beautiful Sonoran Desert! This is a family friendly adventure so bring the kids, grandparents, even the dog (on leash) for this fun hike!

Rocks and Streams Walk - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
November 17 Sunday 9:00 am Rocks and Streams Walk (moderate) Learn about the geology and streams of the Spur Cross region on a 2-hour walk with nationally-known earth science author, Thomas McGuire. Visit an abandoned gold mine, Nutcracker Rock and a Hohokam rock art site along Cottonwood Wash. Bring water and your natural curiosity. Meet in the Spur Cross parking area.

Celebrate National Take a Hike Day with Ranger Amy on the beautiful North Trail at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. Bring the family, and get your burning desert questions answered while we identify wildlife, tracks and mystery holes along the trail. Bring plenty of water and wear closed toed shoes, for this 3 mile guided hike. Meet at the North Trail kiosk.

Full Moon Hike - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
November 17 Sunday 6:00 pm Full Moon Hike (moderate) Come celebrate National Take-a-Hike Day at Spur Cross under a full moon. The Conservation Area is a different experience when seen softly illuminated by the silver moon. While we will attempt to minimize the use of flashlights, bring one in case you need it.

Full Moon Ride on a Horse- San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the San Tan Mountains as you navigate the park atop your trusty steed under the full moon light. Our professionals from MD Ranchwill guide you through the Sonoran Desert on a trail ride you will never forget. Learn about the plants and animals that call San Tan home, and grab your cowboy hat for this exciting ride through the park. Horses must be reserved ahead of time through MD Ranch at (480)331-7893. Spots are limited. Trail rides are available any time. Call to set up your own personalized horseback adventure.
