Look for a lot of horses this weekend
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
An annual event of eqestrian endurance riding will take place at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. The horseback riders will be riding 30, 50 and 75 miles on the park's recreation trail network. No trails will be closed but as always please yield to the horseback riders.

Elephant Mountain Fortress Hike - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
November 16 Saturday 8:00 am Elephant Mountain Fortress Hike (strenuous) Join us for a 7 mile / 5 hour roundtrip trek into the backcountry to one of the premier archaeological sites in the conservation area. Participants need to be in good condition and familiar with what hiking on primitive trails for this distance entails. Participants must bring at least one liter of water. We recommend you have a hat, & dress in layers. No dogs on this hike please.

Progressive Fitness Hike #3 - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Want to increase your fitness level and also enjoy the outdoors? Hit the trails with us for a fun way to get back in shape! During this hike series, each hike will increase in length and difficulty in order to help you prepare for the grand finale hike – the 7.5-mile loop trail around Pass Mountain! This is a great way to get in shape and to hike many different trails in Usery Park at the same time. This hike series will take place every Saturday at 8am through December 7. This third hike of the series will be approximately 4.5 miles. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Location: Staging Area. Note: Participation in the 4th or 5th hike in this series is required to do the final hike. Please be aware that this series involves elevation changes, uneven terrain, and a moderate pace. Participants are expected to stay with the group.

Archery 101 (Two class times available) - Usery Park

Interested in archery? Curious about how to shoot a bow? Come to Usery Park and find out! You will discover how fun archery really is! Participants will experience a fun and safe introduction to recreational and international-style target archery. Equipment will be provided. This class is open to anyone ages 8 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Meet at the Archery Range. Note: This same class is also offered at 10:30 AM. No registration – just show up and have some fun!

Saturday Bird Walk - Usery Park

How do you tell one brown bird from the next, and what are the first three items to look for as the little rascal flits off? Are you already a novice but interested in keeping a yearly, state or national bird list? Bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker, will talk about bird habitat, behavior, range, etc. as we go in search of the native birds in this area. Please bring binoculars, water, and closed-toe shoes. If needed, we have binoculars to borrow. Location: Nature Center.

All About Birds - Usery Park

Mammals of Arizona, Live! - Lake Pleasant

With Thanksgiving on the way, we thought you might want to learn a bit more about Turkeys, both wild and domestic, so we invited our favorite bird “guru”, Joe Ford, from the Sonoran Audubon Society to come out to the Nature Center and share a couple of drumsticks worth of Turkey Talk with you!

Family Full Moon Hike - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
This family-friendly full moon hike will be approximately 1-mile. The trail is rated as easy, but does involve a climb, so may be tough for younger children. Come prepared with comfortable shoes and a flashlight (just in case!). Meet at the Nature Center.

November Full Moon Hike - McDowell
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
There is no better way to experience the desert than on a night hike. And since the sun sets so early this month, you can join Ranger Amy for a hike, and still get the kids to bed on time. Flashlights are not necessary, but permitted. Bring plenty of water and sturdy shoes. Hiking time is 2 1/2 hours, and 3 miles. Children should have experience in hikes of this length or longer. No pets please. Hikes begin at the Trailhead Staging area. Moonlit hike programs are free with $6/vehicle entry to the Park.
