Rocks and Streams Walk - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
October 5 Saturday 8:00 am Rocks and Streams Walk (moderate) Learn about the geology and streams of the Spur Cross region on a 2-hour walk with nationally-known earth science author, Thomas McGuire. Visit an abandoned gold mine, Nutcracker Rock and a Hohokam rock art site along Cottonwood Wash. Bring water and your natural curiosity. Meet in the Spur Cross parking area.

Archery 101 a - Cave Creek Regional Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Interested in archery? Why not give it a try? Participants will experience a fun and safe basic introduction to recreational and international-style target archery. Equipment is provided. This program is open to anyone ages 8 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult! Please bring water and wear closed-toed shoes. ***Advance registration is required! Hiking Basics - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
If you are an aspiring hiker, but don’t have much experience, no need to worry! Join Ranger Amy for an introduction to desert hiking in a non-intimidating setting. This brief presentation and short trail hike (approximately 1-mile) will be a great way to learn. We will talk about basic hiking gear, trail etiquette, Estrella Park’s trail system, and important tips for the beginner hiker. Meet at the Rainbow Trailhead.

All About Saguaros - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Why do saguaros grow arms? How old do they get? What are the unique strategies they use to survive and thrive in our desert? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about saguaros, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares his love for the “jolly green giant of the desert.”

Sunset Over Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
October 5 Saturday 4:30 pm Sunset Over Spur Cross (easy) Come with us on a casual stroll along the Metate Trail as the sun sets over the hills of the conservation area. The twilight is a prime time to watch for wildlife and take pictures so bring some binoculars and a camera.
