Fridays Fitness Hike – Lousley Hill Trailhead
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Fridays Fitness Hike – Various locations in Park- ALL Fridays Come to one or all of the Fitness Hiking Series, every Friday. We build up to a longer hike at the end of the month. Please wear sturdy shoes & bring plenty of water. This week's hike starts at the Lousley Hill Trailhead.

Friday Fitness Series #3
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
October 19 Friday 8:00 am Friday Fitness Series #3 (moderate) Join us for this third of a series of Friday walks in October which progressively get more difficult each week. This third walk will be the Dragonfly/Spur Cross loop for a total of about 3.5 miles. Participants need not be tri-athletes, just ordinary folks who would like to add diversity to their existing walking program. Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.

We will be taking a short 1 mile hike on our Jasper trail and talk about all the amazing plants and animals that live in the desert. Once we are done you will never see the desert the same again! Under the Desert Floor- McDowell Park
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Most of the wildlife of the Desert is actually below your feet, while we hike above. Join Ranger Amy to discover the clues we can look for, right under our feet, to find out who is living Under the Desert Floor. Bring plenty on water and your curiosity, for this easy, less than 1 mile interpretive program on the Nursery Tank Trail.

Snake Feeding at White Tank Park
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
You will learn about the habits of some of the reptiles of the desert by coming into the Nature Center during feeding time. (Caution – creatures are fed live animals so this could be upsetting to some people or small children).

Desert Mythbusters - Evening "Brown-Bag It" with Ranger B - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Are rattlesnakes really dangerous? Can you drink water from a cactus? Do “jumping cactus” really jump? Do the arms of a saguaro help to keep it balanced? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about our desert, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B busts some myths about the desert. Location: Nature Center. Watch us feed our snakes after the program at 7pm. Then join our “Animal Flashlight Walk” at 7:30pm at no extra cost!

QuickStart Your Canoe -Beginner Flatwater Canoeing
Desert Outdoor Center
If you've ever wanted to go canoeing but did't have the necessary skills, then QuickStart Your Canoe is the perfect training for you. This American Canoe Association course is designed to introduce the beginning paddler to basic canoe skills & knowledge so that you can enjoy the sport of tandem canoeing on flat water.

Everyone is invited to come to Cabela’s® (in Glendale) on Friday evening for an informational classroom session that is free to everyone. You do NOT neeed to register to attend the classroom session. We will discuss types of canoes, paddles, canoeing gear and safety tips. You will not get wet during the classroom session.

If you wish to participate in the 4-hour on-water paddle session at Lake Pleasant, arrive at 6:00pm on Friday to register for Saturday’s water session. You must attend the classroom session to participate in the on-water session. The registration fee for the on-the-water portion is $40 and class size is limited, so arrive early. Cash or check only please.

PLEASE NOTE: The Desert Outdoor Center is a gated facility, so you must be registered to attend. Gates will be open 30 minutes before each session begins. ***There is no boat ramp access to launch a boat at this facility, so please do not bring your personal watercraft. The boat dock is about a 1/4 mi down from the facility, so please be prepared for a desert hike.

Animal Flashlight Walk - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
We are the nocturnal animals of the desert and we like to hide. Help Ranger B find us if you can! If you would like to learn about us and enjoy a night walk in the desert, then join Ranger B as he takes you on this exciting 1-mile/1-hour walk along the Merkle Trail. The Merkle Trail offers universal access and the hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Please bring water, a flashlight, and closed-toe shoes. No pets, please. Location: Area 6. Join our “Desert Mythbusters ” program inside our Nature Center at 6pm, and our snake feeding at 7pm at no extra cost!

Last Scorpion Hunt of the Year at White Tank Park
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
We will try to get one more hunt in before the scorpions go into a type of hibernation for the winter. This is a search and count activity only. Bring a scorpion light and don’t wear open toes shoes. No dogs please. Area 4 parking lot.
