Bird Walk - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Join knowledgeable folks from the Sonoran Audobon Society for an easy hike along the Gila River discovering the bird life of Estrella Park. Between the river habitat, mesquite bosque and nearby farm fields, and turf area, over 150 different species have been observed. We are likely to see up to 40 species, including: Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers, Osprey’s, Hawks, Ibis, and Stilts. When you think about it, everyone is a birdwatcher—you can do it wherever or whoever you are– it’s just more fun to know what they are. Meet at the Nature Center. Rain cancels event.

McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Dixie Mine Hidden Petroglyph Hike - The Dixie Mine area is one of the best kept secrets in the Park. This 5.8 mi roundtrip hike has some steep slopes, but the reward is well worth it. Bring more water than you think you'll need, and snacks, and meet at the Golden Eagle trailhead in Fountain Hills. Call the Park for directions to the Trailhead.

Join Ranger Jessica, an archaeologist, on a hike back in time. This 1 1/2 mile hike will provide the opportunity to see petroglyphs and learn about the fascinating archaeological history that is all around us! Please meet at Area 4.

"Just for Kids" - Little Desert Explorers - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
This 1-mile hike is designed for parents and caregivers with small children, ages 3 – 6 years. Using their senses, kids will discover lots of cool things about the plants and animals that call our desert “home.” We will explore the desert along the scenic Merkle Trail. The hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Location: Area 6.

Are you already a novice but interested in keeping a yearly, state or national bird list? Bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker, will talk about bird habitat, behavior, range, etc. as we go in search of the native birds in this area. Please bring binoculars, water, and closed-toe shoes. Special guest speaker Joe Ford will introduce you to the granduer of the Grand Canyon. From the stratigraphy of the Canyon, geologic processes, the geography of the Colorado River, as well as California Condors, and Native Americans, this program will cover millions of years, in about an hour! Meet at the Nature Center.

Guaranteed to make you think twice about how easy it was to make that Thanksgiving meal. Try a chocolate chip cookie made with mesquite flour, or a cracker with prickly pear jelly, along this easy, 2 mile stroll. Meet at the North Trail Trailhead.

Join park host, Sandy Hornbaker, for a late afternoon sojourn through our campground and nature trail on a quest to spot desert wildlife and plants. Come and watch the night sky under the expert guidance of Tony La Conte. Look through telescopes and enjoy a slide presentation under the stars. Learn the names of stars, see the constellations, and listen to stories of the night sky. View the craters of the moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and the rings of Saturn. This is truly a fun night out! No pets, please. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Location: Group Picnic D.
