Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide convenient, safe and economical waste disposal services for unincorporated residents of Maricopa County and perform post-closure landfill service to protect public health and the environment.

Strategic Goals/ Objectives

• Operate county transfer stations to comply with State Statutes.
• Conduct environmental monitoring and maintain all closed landfills to protect integrity of closure components to protect public health and the environment in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations.
• Cooperate with private entities to manage solid waste and special wastes.
• Administer waste tire recycling program for Maricopa County with maximum cost efficiency
• Provide the public education and outreach on illegal dumping, waste reduction and recycling, as well as clean up and Household Hazardous Waste event coordination

Program
Solid Waste Management manages and maintains 10 closed landfills, 6 Waste Transfer Stations (WTS) and a Waste Tire Recycling Program. SWM provides public education and outreach on waste issues, and coordinates community clean ups and Household Hazardous Waste events. Maricopa County has over 4 million residents and our waste transfer stations service area covers more than 200,000 residents and the education and tire recycling programs are offered to all Maricopa County residents.

Personnel
Solid Waste Management has 30 employees.  The majority of our personnel work at the county’s solid waste facilities as Station Attendants, Truck Drivers, Landfill Technicians and Equipment Operators. Solid Waste’s Director, Executive Assistance and Program Coordinator work at the Durango Complex.
