Dr. Don Covey is the Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools and, as such, leads the Maricopa County Education Service Agency. He is one of 12 elected Maricopa County officials. Dr. Covey, a Republican, was elected in 2008, and is serving his first four-year term.

The County Superintendent’s responsibilities include:

• Serving as the fiscal agent for school districts with total annual expenditures of more than $300 million
• Providing educational programs and support services for students
• Maintaining payroll services for school district employees
• Conducting school district elections
• Filing agent for home schooling
• Technological support for school districts
• Acting as assisting agent for a consortium of small school districts within Maricopa County

The County Superintendent also oversees and is the sole governing board member for the Maricopa County Regional Schools District, which provides alternative educational services to school districts and students throughout Maricopa County.
