HIV Services

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health is committed to preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS in our community. It is for this reason that it established the HIV Services Program, a program that exists to provide screening and support services to individuals at risk of having an HIV infection or who are HIV+ and in need of assistance.

HIV Counseling, Testing and Referral Services

HIV Services provides confidential rapid testing for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea and Chlamydia for $20 at our Public Health Clinic location. Anonymous HIV testing is also available for a $20 fee however the HIV test will not be rapid and no other STD screenings will be performed.

HIV is the virus that can cause AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) if left undetected and untreated. HIV testing is offered on a walk-in basis and is performed regularly in various locations (English/Espanol) in and around the Phoenix metro area.

HIV Partner Services

In addition to counseling and testing, Maricopa County Department of Public Health also provides partner services. It is estimated that 1 in 5 people living with HIV in the United States of America are unaware that they are HIV+. Partner Services identifies potentially exposed persons by interviewing people diagnosed with HIV and obtaining information about needle-sharing and sex partners. Partner Services staff then notify exposed persons (without disclosing any confidential information). This allows persons who may have been exposed to get tested for HIV and receive information about the prevention of HIV transmission. Partner Services are available to any HIV+ person who wants their partner(s) to be tested for HIV.

Partner Services also provides emotional support to those who are infected and affected by HIV and assists HIV+ individuals with obtaining specialty medical care and other support services. CDC has identified that HIV+ people who get specialty medical care tend to live longer than those who do not get medical care and are less likely to spread their HIV infection to others.
