Healthy Start

South Phoenix Healthy Start Program

South Phoenix Healthy StartSouth Phoenix Healthy Start is a federally funded, community based; infant mortality reduction program. Our mission is to increase the number of infants that live and remain healthy past one year of age.

Our project provides perinatal case management services, health education events and learning opportunities and community referrals to women and their families in the South Phoenix area. Additionally, we work with the Maryvale community in West Phoenix as an outreach project of our program.

We help our community's families start new lives by offering these FREE services:

  • Maternal, Well Woman and infant case management throughout pregnancy and during the first two years of the baby's life

  • Home visits before, during and after pregnancy providing emotional and social support for mother and the family

  • Individualized, one-on-one and small group perinatal health classes

  • Referrals for prenatal, well woman and infant care, checkups and screenings

  • Referrals for expedited AHCCCS services

We also assist in linking women and families to community resources for:

  • Job and educational assistance and training

  • WIC (healthy foods for mom and her baby)

  • Smoking and other substance cessation interventions from the Office of Tobacco and Chronic Disease

  • Immunizations

  • Food, housing and transportation

  • Child care

  • Counseling services
