The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and the County Supervisors Association (CSA) have named Senator Linda Gray, District 10, as Maricopa County’s Legislator of the Year.
“Senator Gray stood up for the taxpayers of Maricopa County by heading off the governor’s attempt to shift millions of dollars onto our local budget by sending thousands of state prisoners to county jails,” said Maricopa County Supervisor’s Chairman Andy Kunasek. “We need more leaders like her who are willing to do the right thing, not the easy thing.”
Widely acknowledged as one of the Legislature’s foremost experts on education and family policy, Sen. Gray has served 11 years as a state lawmaker from District 10, representing a large portion of the Northwest Valley.
“We applaud Senator Gray for her fiscally conservative approach to addressing the state budget crisis,” said District 4 Supervisor Max Wilson. “Her constituents can depend upon her to support small and efficient state government.”
Previously she was the recipient of Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD’s) Making a Difference Award and the Caring Spirit Award for a bill that gave more funding for assisting seniors with Meals on Wheels.
“In addition, the Senator was a prime sponsor of legislation that will help prevent crime by directing more resources at the small population that commit the large majority of the crimes in Maricopa County and the State of Arizona,” said County Manager David Smith.
