The Maricopa County Facilities Management Department is pleased to announce the substantial completion of a new 50-acre shooting and training facility within the Buckeye Hills Regional Park. The site is divided into two separate facilities: a public range that will be operated by Maricopa County Parks and Recreation and a law enforcement training facility operated by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
The public range consists of two ranges, on 50-yard and one 100-yard, a range building, and associated parking and access roadways. The Sheriff’s facility consists of a 100-yard range and a 300-yard range, a range building and training classrooms, associated parking and access roadways.
This project is unique for Maricopa County because it uses a self-sustained, solar power supply. Power is supplied to the site from solar energy provided by two on-site solar farms. Water is provided to the site through the use of a local well.
The opening of the MCSO portion of the shooting park will be held in February, 2008, and will be conducted by the Sheriff’s office.
