Drop Off Your Household Hazardous Waste Items February 9th

Check your garage or storage shed.  Any worn batteries, half-empty paint cans, out-of-date motor oil or crusted gardening solutions?  Load them up in your trunk and drop them off at our annual Maricopa County hazardous waste disposal event Saturday, February 9th.

We make it easy for you to safely dispose of household hazardous waste materials.  Every year, hundreds of North West Valley residents take advantage of our annual event, which provides a double benefit:  You can keep your homes safe by disposing of potentially hazardous materials and you also protect the environment by properly disposing of these items.

Essentially, it is a no-hassle, drive-through operation.  Simply load your items in your car and our staff from the Maricopa County Waste Management Department will quickly unload them for you as you remain behind the wheel.  Come through with your golf cart if you prefer.

The long lines move quickly--and are a testament to the communities’ commitment to creating a safe environment for all of us.  We commend you for making the choice not to dump illegally and for making an effort to do the right thing and dispose of these items appropriately.

An avid hiker, especially in the beautiful White Tanks Regional Park near my home, I shake my head when I see debris marring the natural landscape.  Substances such as battery fluid, dumped in the desert to biodegrade, can leak into the ground and contaminate drinking water.  This is why it is so important that we dispose with care.

So get to your storage room and get your items ready to bring by on Saturday, February 9th, from 8:00 AM to noon at the Maricopa County Events Center, 19403  R. H. Johnson Blvd., Sun City West.  I’ll be there.  Perhaps you’ll drive through my line and we can shake hands so I can personally thank you for your time and commitment to our community.

Acceptable items include:  paints, hobby supplies, aerosoles, poisons, gardening supplies, smoke detectors, flammables, cleaners, batteries, gasoline, motor oil, fuel additives, transmission fluid, anti-freeze and even computers.  Also, residents may bring up to four tires.
