White Tank Mountain Regional Park will reopen the Waterfall Trail and trailhead to the public on Friday, December 28. The barrier-free trail had been closed for renovations as crews regraded, resurfaced and extended the barrier-free portion of the trail by one-tenth of a mile. “I think the public will be extremely pleased with the changes,” stated Maricopa County Supervisor Max Wilson, District 4. “Not only are the changes aesthetically pleasing, they also enable hikers to reach new destination points along the trail,” added Wilson.
The initial portion of the trail was widened and raised while the second-half experienced tread, realignment and drainage improvements. In addition to the renovations, visitors will notice new railings around the petroglyph plaza, which adds an element of protection to the petroglyphs.
