The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors today accepted a $500,000 Donation from Pulte Homes for development of the Buckeye Hills Shooting Park. The 120-acre shooting park, which is 10 miles south of Buckeye and west of State Route 85, will include ranges for public use and ranges for use by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to train deputies.
The donation fulfills a commitment made more than six years ago by Pulte Homes to financially support moving the shooting range from a flood plain to its current location. Today, more than four years after the formal agreement expired and two years after completely selling out of Sun City Grand, Pulte
Homes still honored their original commitment to make the donation.
“Our community is eagerly awaiting the Buckeye Hills Shooting Park and this donation brings us just one step closer to a great facility. I appreciate Pulte Homes for their steadfast commitment to the West Valley,” says District 4 Supervisor Max Wilson.
The Board of Supervisors approved the architectural phase of the project this past January. They approved the entire $18,450,000 project last August.
The Sheriff’s Department currently uses a shooting range located at McMicken Dam in the West Valley, north of Surprise. That Sheriff’s range will close and they are expected to begin using the new Buckeye Hills Range January 2, 2008.
