Fulton Brock seeks input on waste transfer station

County supervisor Fulton Brock, District 1, will host a neighborhood meeting on a proposed site plan for a waste transfer station in a county island surrounded by the city of Chandler.  The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, will be held at Jacobson Elementary School, 1515 Northwest Jacaranda Way in south Chandler from 7 to 9 p.m.

Supervisor Brock remains opposed to the proposal for a waste transfer station on the north side of Germann Road, east of Arizona Avenue and he knows he’s not alone.

“I didn’t feel the Planning and Zoning Commission heard enough community input on this proposal,” said Brock. “I want to provide a more convenient opportunity for the neighborhood to be involved.”

Since the property is already zoned for such intense industrial uses like that proposed, the site plan proposals do not require the applicant to hold a community meeting. “A neighborhood meeting may not be required, but it is wholly appropriate in this instance,” said Brock.  The site plan proposal was heard by the Planning and Zoning Commission on March 1 and forwarded to the Board of Supervisors with a recommendation for approval subject to a list of stipulations.

Brock notes concern over the proximity of Chandler’s Tumbleweed Park and the potential for conflicting traffic. He further cites wear and tear on the roads, foul odors emanating from the site, and likelihood of roadside litter as issues for residents.  “My sincere hope is that the Board will deny this request,” said Brock.  “At worst case scenario, I want the neighborhood to help define stipulations that will mitigate the use,” said Brock.
