Don Stapley Receives Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award

Annually, the Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America presents Silver Beaver Awards to a limited number of Scouters for distinguished service of exceptional character to youth.

A Scouter is an adult volunteer who may serve as a unit leader (scoutmaster) or as a district or council-level volunteer.  The Grand Canyon Council serves ten Arizona counties and one county in New Mexico.

Don Stapley, who is the Maricopa County Supervisor for District 2,

received a Silver Beaver Award in December at The Mesa District of the Grand Canyon Council Boy Scouts of America 2006 Volunteer Recognition Dinner.

In excess of 14,000 Scouters are registered in the Grand Canyon Council and the Silver Beaver Award Recipients are selected by their peers.  They each have contributed more than a decade of their lives working with young people, not only in scouting, but in the greater community.

A fourth-generation resident of Mesa, Don Stapley has volunteered for youth development and education organizations that include the Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Mesa Eastern Education Foundation, the Mesa Family YMCA and the Mesa Little League.  He is active in his church and the youth activities the church sponsors.  He and his wife Kathy have four children and four grandchildren.
