Maricopa County Supervisor Max Wilson was recently appointed to the Department of Homeland Security Advisory Council (Central Region) by Governor Janet Napolitano.
There are five Homeland Security Advisory Councils in Arizona. The councils develop, implement and maintain regional homeland security strategies. They also support and assist in implementation of Arizona's comprehensive statewide risk assessment. Council members also support and assist an integrated regional approach to homeland security in this state.
The councils also make recommendations about the allocation of state homeland security grant program monies to eligible jurisdictions and other organizations based on regional, state and federal criteria.
Supervisor Wilson, an Air Force Veteran, will serve on the Central Region Advisory Council as a representative of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. He has been a county supervisor since 2002.
Supervisor Wilson was sworn in as an Advisory Council member by Secretary of State Jan Brewer on January 17, 2007.
Mr. Wilson said, “I am honored by this appointment. Homeland Security is the most critical issue of our time and I look forward to providing whatever assistance I can to Arizona Department of Homeland Security.”
There are twelve members appointed to the advisory councils and each member serves a two year term.
