Sunday afternoon, in front of a 7,000-person sold-out performance at the Maricopa County Events Center (MCEC), Supervisor Max Wilson donated a year’s salary as a Maricopa County Supervisor to the MCEC. The annual salary for a Maricopa County Supervisor is $67,800.00. Mr. Wilson wrote a personal check for his salary minus taxes--a total of $40,000. He turned over the check to Northern Trust, which will manage an account to which anyone can donate toward the MCEC.
Preceding the performance on Sunday, the Sundome Performing Arts Association (SPAA) presented Supervisor Wilson with a check for $2,174,222.71. Those funds, raised by SPAA for stage house improvements, were officially transferred to Maricopa County.
The performance, organized by SPAA, was billed as a Community Appreciation Command Performance and featured legends Patti Page, Lennon Sisters, Ink Spots, Tex Beneke Orchestra and comedian Gary Mule Deer.
In the spirit of appreciation for donations from the community, Mr. Wilson believed it was important to set an example. He and his wife have purchased season tickets to the MCEC.
