San Tan Mountain Regional Park unveils new trails
(Queen Creek) – Beginning February 15, San Tan Mountain Regional Park visitors will be able to enjoy a hike on one of three new scenic trails. The new trail system includes the Goldmine Trail (2.5 miles), Moonlight Trail (1.2 miles) and San Tan Trail (3.2 miles). Visitors are required under the Park Rules to stay on the designated trails and more permanent trails are slated for future development.
The park is open to non-motorized use, including hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. Vegetation in the park changes from creosote flats to dense saguaro forest. Various types of wildlife may be observed, including reptiles, birds, and mammals.
The trails are not the only thing new at the park. David Jordan, park supervisor, recently joined the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation team. Jordan will oversee the park and develop programming that will help enhance the visitors overall outdoor experience. While checking out the new trails, Parks hopes you’ll to stop by the office and welcome him to the community.
San Tan Mountain Regional Park is located at 6533 W. Phillips Road in Queen Creek. The park is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. A $5 per vehicle entry fee is required to enjoy the amenities. For additional information, visit www.maricopa.gov/parks/santan.
