Supervisors choose Melanie DeForest as justice of the peace for Arrowhead Court

Pro tem Justice of the Peace Melanie DeForest is the unanimous choice of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors as the new permanent justice of the peace for Arrowhead Court serving Peoria, Sun City and parts of Glendale. The board voted today in a special board meeting to fill the vacancy.

Deforest, a Glendale resident, has served as pro tem judge for several courts since 2009 and was assigned to the Arrowhead Court last October. She is a graduate of the Judicial College of Arizona and attended both Arizona State University and the University of Utah majoring in criminal justice.

The board members said that DeForest would bring "stability and competence" to the court. "We're fortunate to have someone of her experience and knowledge to take over that court,” commented Board Chairman Max Wilson, in whose supervisorial district the court is located. "She is not only well liked and respected, but she is efficient and capable."

Supervisor Andy Kunasek echoed the sentiment. "It has been too long a time since we have had a dedicated, fulltime justice for that court," he said. Several Northwest Valley constables and justices attended the event to support the appointment.

Public service is an honor," DeForest told the board members, acknowledging their confidence.
