Board appoints Phil Lovas to State House of Representatives
Peoria resident Phil Lovas was named to the state House of Representatives from Legislative District 4 in a unanimous, 5-0 vote by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
Lovas, 43, is in hotel development in the western United States and an Arizona resident since 1996. He said he would work βto make Arizona the number one place in America to do business.β He will focus on job creation by trying to cut the size and scope of government and protect conservative values at the Legislature.
Lovas intends to run for the House this fall in the newly created District 22, which covers Peoria, Glendale, Sun City West and Surprise. He is currently a precinct committeeman in the current District 4. He has never held elected office before.
βI will do my best to represent the people of District 4,β Lovas told the supervisors after his appointment. Lovas was the top vote-getter in balloting by District 4 precinct committeeman and one of three nominated for the position. The House vacancy was created when former state Rep. Judy Burges was appointed to the state Senate. Burges replaced former state Sen. Scott Bundgaard last month.
He and his wife Corrine have three children.
