For the last several years FEMA has been working on a county wide update to the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for Maricopa County.
FEMA has officially started the 90-day public appeal period for the update they have been working on. During the public appeal period any owner or lessee of real property may submit an appeal, communities may also submit appeals.
The sole basis for an appeal is having knowledge or information indicating that the proposed Base Flood Elevations (BFE) are scientifically or technically incorrect. Inquiries regarding data other than proposed BFE determinations (e.g., street names, typographical errors, missing data) will be considered as comments, rather than appeals. Comments are welcomed but, unlike appeals they are not required to be addressed in the current mapping effort. Communities are required to review and forward to FEMA any appeals they receive.
