During these tough economic times, MCACC wants to take some of the strain off keeping your pets healthy. MCACC’s Uno por Uno program will be holding a FREE Rabies Vaccination Clinic for your dogs and cats July 27. The clinic will be held at MCACC’s West Valley Animal Care Center at 2500 S. 27th Avenue in Phoenix from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Dogs must be on a leash less than 6 feet in length and cats need to be in carriers.
It is important to vaccinate your pet against rabies. Rabies, an infectious viral disease, affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals. It is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. Rabies can be eliminated by maintaining current rabies vaccinations for your pets, public education, and seeking appropriate medical care for you or your pet, if bitten.
Rabies prevention starts with the animal owner. Protect yourself, your pet and your community by taking animals to be vaccinated. Avoid stray animals and wildlife. If you are bitten, wash bite wounds with soap and water and seek medical attention immediately. If your pet is bitten, consult your veterinarian immediately. Prompt and appropriate treatment after being bitten and before the disease develops can stop rabies infection and/or prevent the disease in humans and animals.
Andy Kunasek, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, urges all pet owners to take advantage of this free program to keep their pets safe from Rabies.
