Commercial Construction
The value and safety of your structure rely heavily on obtaining a building permit prior to construction. A building
permit is your reassurance that your building plans, as well as the structure you build, will be inspected for minimum
code safety.
Commercial construction can be defined as any structure intended to house commercial activity or
those structures which are located on property with either commercial or industrial zoning.
Please note: Starting September 22, 2008, all multi-family, commercial and industrial construction permits will first
require a land use approval of the site plan through the Plan of Development review process prior to construction permit
issuance. The Board of Supervisors implemented this requirement in order to ensure consistent application of minimum
development standards throughout unincorporated Maricopa County. For more information on this new process, please contact
our department at 602-506-3301 and ask for the on-call planner.
The Department of Environmental Services
also regulates certain aspects of commercial construction.
