Spay & Neuter

Spaying or neutering your pet is one of the most important (and wisest) decisions you can make. In addition to helping reduce our community's pet homelessness problem, studies have shown that spayed/neutered pets are typically healthier, less territorial and less aggressive.

MCACC offers Maricopa County residents low and no cost spay/neuter surgeries during our Spay/Neuter events. We do on-site surgeries during the events in our Neuter Scooter. The >Neuter Scooter is a self-contained surgical unit that offers spay/neuter surgeries, license and rabies vaccination clinics for Maricopa County residents. The Neuter Scooter is intended for owned pets. Each Neuter Scooter Spay & Neuter event can provide service for up to 25 dogs and cats, depending on the size of each animal. Each Neuter Scooter Vaccine & License Clinic can provide service for more than 100 animals.

Guidelines for Rabies Vaccination Clinics
  • Dogs must be securely controlled on a leash or in a carrier at all times.
  • All cats must be in a secure pet carrier (one cat per carrier). Cats can escape easily if not properly contained.
  • All animals must be in good health and at least three months of age
  • Animals must be brought in by their legal owner (age 18 or older)
  • Pregnant females will not be vaccinated
  • Only cash or check accepted
  • If possible, please bring your animal's last rabies vaccination certificate
Guidelines for Spay/Neuter Events
  • Check‑in begins at 7 AM (unless otherwise stated), but customers line up much earlier
  • No food/water after 10 PM the night before surgery
  • Cats must weigh at least two pounds
  • Dogs must weigh at least three pounds and no more than 65 pounds
  • No herniated pets
  • No cryptorchid males (retained testicles)
  • No pregnant or in‑heat females
  • Purchase of a $17 license is REQUIRED for ALL dogs receiving surgery

**Please note: Clinics are held rain or shine; however, MCACC reserves the right to cancel or limit the clinic duration in the event of severe weather. Depending on event attendance, you may experience a lengthy wait time. Participants are asked to prepare for the weather accordingly.

I tried to get a voucher and was told they are given out on a limited basis. Why? MCACC's Spay Neuter Assistance Program is funded entirely by donations. There may be times during the year when funding is limited and it will affect how many vouchers can be distributed. If you'd like to support this program, please donate to Friends of Animal Care & Control.
